The Chevy Silverado 1500 is the little brother of the Silverado 2500 HD; it is smaller and has a less powerful engine. This is not necessarily a bad thing — not everyone needs a heavy-duty truck. The Silverado 2500 HD and the GMC Sierra 2500 are similar trucks in that they are both heavy-duty vehicles, but there are key differences between them. It also has a lower base price, meaning it will be less of a strain on your finances.
The diesel engine of the Silverado 2500 HD is stronger than that of the Ram 2500 HD. The latter’s base towing capacity is under 18,000 pounds, compared to the stunning 18,500-pound capacity1 of the diesel-equipped Silverado 2500. The Chevy truck is also more affordable than the Ram 2500 when comparing base trims.
